Technology
The technical part is fairly simple. Most of us know that getting some sun usually helps clear up acne a little. That's because the light basically is toxic to bacteria. Now the blue light has a certain nm (nanometer) wavelength that is very toxic to the P. acnes bacteria under our skin. Everyone has the bacteria, but some of us are unfortunate and it gets out of control. Fortunately science has discovered that a blue light which has a specific wavelength of 420nm kills specifically the P. acnes bacteria. It must be 405-420nm to be effective. There are many "open box" or returned blue light devices. That is because they don’t work and don’t have the specific 420nm technology. They are just a blue light!
The bulb used in this lamp is a compact fluorescent bulb specifically designed with special phosphorus that emits the exact wavelength 420nm. Compact fluorescent bulbs are the most powerful light source available! This bulb has a light output equal to 150 watts! This is why we chose this application over the weaker LED. It is not available in stores. These bulbs are designed for long use and outlast a regular light bulb by 13X. It is rated for 10,000 hours life! Understand, not just any blue light bulb will be effective.
How to Use
This is the most practical, comfortable treatment AVAILABLE
You simply can place the lamp securely on a night stand. Lay down under it with the lamp 1-2 feet away from face. Time for 10-15 minutes and you are done! Most people use it before bed and it is simple and easy! It is best to use the light every day for 2 weeks and then switched to 2x a week for maintenance. Your results may vary as I only had moderate acne. Most studies indicate using daily for 4-12 weeks or longer.
Other similar light treatments are not very practical. Some you have to sit up in front of or are hand held covering only one small area of your face at a time! As you can see from the pictures the light is very intense and covers your whole face and upper chest if needed.
We absolutely recommend sun glasses or tanning glasses with 400nm rating. Always be safe when it comes to your eyes.
